This month I want to celebrate one of my clients for achieving some impressive milestones in his business.

Sam Baldwin is the Founder and CEO of Key Commerce, an agency that helps Ecommerce stores scale and grow their revenue using intelligent digital marketing strategies.

When we began working together, one of Sam’s goals was to grow his business revenue significantly within 12 months. Key Commerce is now achieving monthly revenue amounts that are two to three times what they were 6 months ago. They have a waiting list of clients who want to work with them, and have recently raised their fees to a premium level.

Sam’s success here is the result of his willingness to challenge himself both internally and externally, and to face areas of resistance with intelligence and a strong commitment to sorting them out for once and for good.

Sam has a popular Youtube channel with lots of great content. You can check it out at: https://www.youtube.com/c/MrSamBaldwin

We’re in the middle of a series of newsletters focusing on organisations that are significant players in the area of environmental sustainability.

Last month we took a good look at what Google are doing to contribute positively to the environment.

This month, we’ll see what the Ford Motor Company has been up to in that area.

In 1999, Ford made a revolutionary decision to transform their ageing Rouge River manufacturing plant into an environmentally friendly operation. With the plant in an out-of-date condition, most manufacturers would have left it to rot and moved on, however Ford chose to take responsibility for revitalising the plant to operate on sustainability principles. The key environmental initiative implemented at the Ford plant was the installation of a “green roof”, which involved deliberately creating a roof of soil and vegetation that served as a natural storm water management system.

This was the beginning of Ford's journey of implementing a strong positive environmental focus on their operations, in collaboration with sustainability consultants McDonough & Braungart who were the founders of the legendary Cradle to Cradle philosophy. I highly recommend their book: Cradle To Cradle. Click
here to check it out.

Ford has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and has already achieved a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions since 2011. In real speak, Ford's 2050 carbon zero goal means attaining zero emissions from all Ford’s vehicles and facilities, primarily by investing in renewable fuel technologies such as hydrogen internal combustion and fuel cell technology, and using 100% local renewable energy in all manufacturing by 2035. It also means using using sustainable materials that are 100% recycled in their manufacturing processes.

Some other highlights in Ford’s environmental performance include the Mustang Mach-E being named Best Car To Buy in 2021 by Green Car Reports, hitting previous emissions targets eight years early through initiatives such as installing LED lights and updating painting operations at manufacturing facilities, and achieving 100% renewable energy power to over five of Ford’s facilities, with significant progress towards achieving the same in all facilities worldwide.

Keep your eye out for next month’s newsletter, where I’m saving the best for last. We’ll be taking a good look at Interface Flor, a carpet manufacturing company that has pioneered the carbon zero targets that many companies today are now setting themselves. I’ll describe the “spear in the chest” moment that CEO Ray Anderson had when he was rudely woken up to the urgency of this quest while reading Paul Hawken’s The Ecology of Commerce.

To help leaders grow and develop their ability to lead effectively, I created a short e-book: "How To Avoid The 10 Biggest Mistakes That Leaders Make."

Some of the mistakes I discuss in this e-book include: Confusing Management With Leadership, Hiring The Wrong People, and Failing To Understand Customers.

I draw on the latest research in organisational leadership, as well as the experience of the many business owners and executives I have worked with over the years.

Coaching

I help organisational leaders develop outstanding leadership skills and run high-performing organisations.

After more than two decades of coaching leaders from organisations of all sizes across a wide range of industries within Australia, I’ve seen the impact of poor strategy, weak accountability structures, and misunderstanding how to motivate teams for high performance.

Organisations that suffer from these symptoms tend to repeat a predictable cycle of undesirable experience over and over again, without ever moving forward to a more positive future.

The good news is that with intelligent leadership, you can lead your organisation or your team in a way that gets strong results, and ensures people really enjoy themselves along the way.
